Student C journal excerpt:
For my final reflection, I want to focus on my role as tutor in the classroom. The first two times I was in the classroom, I worked with students but found them avoiding the writing assignment and wanting to socialize with us [KU students] and ask questions about college. I think the small age difference between the students and myself caused them to view us [college students] more as friends and colleagues rather than an authority figure or teacher. . .however, by the third time we were in the classroom, I felt capable of being a teacher and tutor of writing. I met with students one-on-one and helped them edit their papers. Students started to open up and genuinely want help with their writing. I also opened up each time I visited the classroom and felt more comfortable asking students if they needed help.
